Marc Skinner has responds to derogatory comments made about Manchester United women's team by TalkSport host Alan Brazil.
The club released new framework earlier this week, named 'Mission 21' and 'Mission 1, detailing an overarching goal to bring league silverware back to both the men's and women's teams.
Their 'Mission 1' ambition includes an objective for the women's team to win the Women's Super League (WSL) by 2028. The side have won just one trophy since the club's inception in 2018, taking home the Adobe Women's FA Cup last year.
However, Scotland footballer and TalkSport host Alan Brazil came under fire for his criticism of the framework, claiming the women's team aren't as "important" as the men's.
"When you talk about Man United, it's only the men's and the Premier League that we're talking about here, it's not the women's," he said. "People around the world are not bothered, Man United fans want to see Manchester United in the Premier League challenging."
He added: "Its [the women's team] not important compared to the bigger picture."
Addressing the media ahead of his side's FA Cup fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, head coach Marc Skinner told press that he has not seen the comments that have been made, but strongly disagrees with the notion.
"I didn't hear those comments, I've not heard context," he said. "But for me, I think it's very clear. I've been in the conversations when the club spoke about bringing these kind of missions together, and it's both. There's not one above the other. It's a clear focus that we want both teams to drive to be successful and to be really ambitious."
"The wording was even changed around within our conversation to make sure it supports the women's structure and the growth of the women's team as well. So I think it's fantastic that we're aligned. There's still the expectation on the men's team as there is the women's team, which I think is healthy. We've got work to do to meet those targets."
