Maria McAneny continued her fine run of form in front of goal on Friday evening, grabbing her 12th goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with Glasgow City.

After scoring twice last time out against Dundee United, the midfielder maintained her place in the starting XI.

And she played a role in securing a point on the road, with a superb second-half strike to level up the scoring at Petershill Park.

Speaking to Celtic TV after grabbing a goal on her 70th appearance in the Hoops, McAneny reflected on the performance as a whole.

The Academy graduate insisted that the Ghirls were unlucky not to come away with all three points, but there were still plenty of positives to take away from the point on the road.

She said: “I think the first half was a bit on and off from us in terms of the performance but I thought we definitely played well throughout.

“Conceding the goals is tough because it does come from our mistakes, but I thought that we played well.

“In the second half, I think you could see that we were on top of the game and had most of the chances.

“One of our tasks coming into the game was to start really well, and we did that. You can see in most games, that’s our task

‘We come out and try to start well and we have done that the past few times.’

“That’s a positive but we just need to make sure we're switched on at times.

“So we feel a little unlucky, but we are glad to take something out of the game coming away with a draw.”

With 12 goals and 11 assists to her name so far this campaign, the midfielder is enjoying a strong season in front of goal.

However, as is the case for all of this Celtic squad, it ultimately doesn’t matter who puts the ball in the net, and the focus is on the team performance.

The 20-year-old was pleased to contribute once more on Friday evening, and insisted that the squad will keep fighting with plenty to play for at the top of the SWPL.

“I’ve said it before, but as a player, you just want to contribute to the team the best way you can," McAneny said.

'If I can keep doing that, then I’m happy.'

“It’s slightly tough to come away without the win because I think we deserved it, to be honest.

“But it’s just about moving on to the next game, and being happy to take at least a point away from the game.

“We just need to keep pushing, keep fighting and that is all we can do.”
