Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool defender speaking ahead of the St James’ Park match on Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle United having played eighteen matches in total (all competitions) so far this season.
Eight wins, five draws and five defeats.
Now set to face Leicester City at home.
Mark Lawrenson speaking to Paddy Power ahead of Newcastle v Leicester:
“This could be one of the most important games of Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle.
“If they get turned over the crowd could well turn on him a little bit.
“Leicester have had a bit of a bounce but I’ll back the Toon Army.
“If they can stop Jamie Vardy I’m not sure what else Leicester have really.
“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Leicester 0”
Interesting to see what Liverpool fan Mark Lawrenson had to say ahead of Newcastle’s most recent match at St James’ Park.
“Newcastle will probably be quite negative and try to shut out Liverpool, especially if Aleksander Isak is out, as reports suggest. They might be able to pull it off, so I’ll go for Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool.”
I was amazed that Mark Lawrenson didn’t predict a Liverpool victory, as he usually does pretty any match, let alone when they are top of the league. Indeed, I think he was pretty much the only pundit who didn’t forecast a win for the scousers.
He predicted the draw correctly but got pretty much everything else wrong, especially how Eddie Howe would approach that Liverpool game! The availability of Alexander Isak of course helping United to go on the front foot, scoring for a fifth game in seven, which became a sixth in eight at Brentford.
Hopefully this time, Mark Lawrenson is proved correct again, on this occasion in terms of a clean sheet for Newcastle and at least a couple of goals at the other end.
