Marquinhos: ‘We want to bring home the trophy' | OneFootball

The Paris Saint-Germain captain spoke at a press conference on the eve of the 2024 Trophée des Champions match against AS Monaco on Sunday 5th January at 5.30pm (French time) at the Stade 974 in Doha. Here are some extracts.

‘The second half of the season is always decisive: in the league, in Europe, in the domestic cup... It's up to us to be competitive, because all the matches will be important. In January alone, we'll be playing seven games. Tomorrow's game should enable us to win our first trophy of the season. Together, we want to bring this trophy home.

the atmosphere within the team

‘Trips like this, where we're all together, are part of the cohesion of the group. It's very important. The group has been getting on well since we arrived here in Doha. Now we have to translate all that on to the pitch tomorrow and put in a good performance to get the second half of the season off to a good start.'

the return of Lucas Hernandez

‘He's an important player in the team. He has experience and has won major titles. He brings grit to a very technical team. He's a leader for us, both on the pitch and in the dressing room. He's a player in whom the coach has a lot of confidence, and so does the whole team.'

‘We have a very demanding coach, so we know the importance of every game we play. The coach is just as demanding in every game. We're at Paris Saint-Germain, so we want to win all our games and win trophies. Tomorrow we have this opportunity and we know how important it is to seize it.

‘Coming here is a great opportunity for us, as it allows us to spend some quality time together as a team. It's also a chance for us to get to know the local culture, while at the same time providing a great match-up between ourselves and Monaco, two strong teams in the league.’

‘Even though we've played against them recently, I think tomorrow's game will be different. We're two brave teams who aren't afraid to play and go forward. We're expecting a very tough game. A final is always decided in the details.'
