The excitement that greeted Olympique de Marseille at the start of the season with a record 49,000 season tickets sold has not died down. And Marseille fans have shown once again their fervour ahead of Sunday’s Le Classique.

Hope has been building in the southern city since the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi in June and performances in the early stages of the campaign have fueled the sense of belief that this new project has the potential to challenge for the Ligue 1 title come the end of the season.

The club sit third in the league only three points behind Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco, and expectations are high ahead of hosting the first Le Classique of the season. It is a situation which has helped contribute to seats at the Stade Vélodrome becoming an increasingly prized commodity.

Marseille received over 45,000 requests for the 17,000 available tickets on Sunday and over 130,000 clicks on their site’s ticketing page, meaning that this upcoming Le Classique will be Les Phocéens’ 50th sold-out match since the 1st of May 2022.

The club will be hopeful that the game could see them match or break their previous attendance record of 66,046 supporters which was set last year against PSG, with the Marseille fans arriving with the desire to see their club close the gap between them and their arch-rivals.

Marseille hope to match the previous record set in 2022/23

The objectives on the field for Marseille are clear, but there is also one that the club hopes to meet in the stands throughout the season and one that they are currently on course to meet. Marseille will aim to match a previous record set in the 2022/23 campaign when they managed to sell out all their Ligue 1 fixtures.
