Rúben Amorim and Manchester United looked to be on course for a result at Anfield but Arne Slot's Reds have turned it around and now lead 2-1 against their bitter league rivals.

Coming into today's clash between two bitter and storied rivals, you would have bet your mortgage that Arne Slot's Reds would have run riot on Merseyside.

But the Red Devils were first to strike seven minutes after the restart thanks to none other than Lisandro Martínez, with a rasping drive from inside the box that flew over Alisson's head.

And a result could be a long time coming, too, as United have historically slogged through the mud in front of the Kop, with their last win at this ground coming back in 2016 in a 1-0 win thanks to a Wayne Rooney goal.

Since then, United have not scored in seven of their eight fixtures there, with Martínez's strike the first time they have hit the back of the net at Anfield since Jesse Lingard in 2018 in Jose Mourinho's final game.

Liverpool's Cody Gakpo spoiled the mood minutes later with a strike of his own, however, making it four games in a row where he's scored on home soil in the league.

Mo Salah then bagged yet another goal from the spot to put Liverpool out in front.
