Santiago Gimenez has fallen into a slump shortly after a great start at Milan. He had commenced with three goals and one assist in his first four displays. Instead, he has failed to hit the net and mustered just one helper in the ensuing five fixtures.
Mexico coach Gerardo Martino commented on his star to ESPN (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“His evolution has been impressive. He has become an established player, he shined in the European cups, and he went from a second-tier championship, where he had a positive journey, to Milan. He’s arguably our best player at the moment, even though I heard the criticism after Copa Oro and Nations League matches.” “He has been signed by one of the best clubs in Europe. That’s what I wish for many of our footballers so the national team can improve. The jump from Feyenoord to Milan is significant for a Mexican player.”
The Rossoneri invested €28.5M to onboard him from Feyenoord. He had found the target 16 times in 19 matches before switching sides. According to Mediaset (via OneFootball), the club is worried about his month-long drought but isn’t panicking.
The marksman is one of the few players who are certain to stay put past the summer along with Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic, as there’s no sliver of doubt concerning his future.
More than the lack of goals, it’s a tad more concerning that he hasn’t been very involved in their offense and that they haven’t been able to feed him regularly despite their aggressive posture, but it should be just a matter of time.
