Milan haven’t finalized any renewal for now, even though a couple of negotiations, for instance, the one with Mike Maignan, have already been completed. The Rossoneri aren’t giving much weight to his recent errors. It’s only a matter of time and technicalities before the announcement, Corriere dello Sport informs.
The goalkeeper had some gaffes versus Feyenoord, Cagliari, and Hellas Verona, but the brass isn’t wavering. The agreement has been sealed a while back. The formalization could come once the schedule eases up a little.
Maignan will extend his contract with Milan until 2029 and make €5M annually, doubling his current wages. The expiration date is 2026 at the moment. The front office has been very confident about a positive outcome for a couple of months. In addition, they never truly considered cashing in on him. Bayern Munich were one of the teams that inquired about him in recent windows.
Consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic commented on the matter in the presser before the Feyenoord game.
“We’re talking with him, Theo Hernandez, and Tijjani Reijnders. In our mind, everything is under control. They are happy at Milan and want to continue with us.”
He hasn’t been tremendous this season, but it will likely turn out to be just a blip considering his level since joining. The numbers are fine relatively to their standards and what he could pocket abroad, and he’s been healthier than in the past. You never know what you could run into when you decide to change your shot-stopper, and the really good ones always cost a fortune, making it easier to stand pat when you have a reliable one.
