The 30-year-old winger, who also won the men's Sela Player of the Month award for April, was in terrific form for the Magpies after registering three goals and three assists in six matches for Eddie Howe's side.

Murphy set up Alexander Isak's opening goal in a 2-1 win against Brentford at St. James' Park before netting a quick-fire brace against Leicester City during a 3-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

The Wembley-born forward, who has recorded 11 league assists so far this season, provided an assist for Harvey Barnes' first of two goals during an emphatic 4-1 win against Manchester United before producing a goal and assist during the Magpies' thumping 5-0 win against Palace, opening the scoring in stunning fashion, whilst winning the penalty in Newcastle's 3-0 triumph over Ipswich Town.

Murphy saw off competition from Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister, who won April's Premier League Player of the Month award, as well as Nico O'Reilly of Manchester City, Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, Jørgen Strand Larsen of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal's Leandro Trossard to win the award.
