Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij says that the Nerazzurri are “fired up” for the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
The 32-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, ahead of the match. He noted that the team want to show they’ve “grown” since losing to the Rossoneri in the league.
Inter and Milan face off in the Supercoppa Italiana final today.
It’s the derby, and it is also the first opportunity that both teams will have to pick up silverware this season.
Therefore, there is certainly no shortage of motivation for either of the two sides.
Inter and Milan also met in the Supercoppa final in 2022. The Nerazzurri won that match 3-0, kicking off a run of six straight derby wins that saw them knock their city rivals out of the Champions League and clinch the Serie A title.
However, the last time the two teams, Milan got their revenge. In the first Serie A derby of this season, the Rossoneri deservedly won 2-1.
“We’re thinking about what we have to do,” said Inter defender de Vrij ahead of this evening’s match.
“We’ve prepared for it well. We feel ready.”
As far as being the favourites in this evening’s match, de Vrij said that “We don’t think about those things.”
“Those are conversations from outside the dressing room,” he added.
De Vrij made clear that “We’ve prepared well. We’re fired up, and we can’t wait to play.”
Meanwhile, the Dutchman also looked back on the first derby of the season. He admitted that there’s a desire for revenge.
“We had a bad match,” de Vrij admitted. “Milan deserved to win.”
“We want to show that we’ve grown,” he said of this evening’s rematch with city rivals the Rossoneri.
