Wolverhampton Wanderers locked Matheus Cunha into a long-term deal during the winter transfer window, fending off strong interest from several clubs. But even with that commitment, speculation about his future hasn’t gone away.

Cunha has emerged as a key figure for Wolves, impressing across multiple attacking roles and consistently making an impact. According to Fichajes, the Brazilian has shined whether deployed as an attacking midfielder, second striker, or center-forward—versatility that’s reportedly caught the eye of top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.

While Wolves clearly rate him highly, reports suggest they could be tempted by offers north of €70 million. Back in January, Sky Sports News revealed that Nottingham Forest submitted a club-record bid worth around £60 million.

Could Newcastle pull a transfer swoop for Matheus Cunha?

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing Cunha as their top target for the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail (h/t GOAL).

While the Magpies already have a proven goal scorer in Alexander Isak, his future is up in the air, with clubs like Arsenal showing interest after his standout 20-goal campaign.

Cunha, who’s scored 13 league goals this season despite Wolves’ up-and-down form, could be tempted by the chance to link up with fellow Brazilians Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton at St. James’ Park.

Nonetheless, this news is a twist in terms of previous reporting that put Liverpool and Manchester United as the clubs with the edge in this race.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently reported that Cunha’s agent traveled to England and has already met with Manchester United to discuss a potential move. The forward is said to be open to joining United, even if the club misses out on European football next season.

Meanwhile, Football Insider notes that Cunha would prefer a move to Liverpool, though both Arsenal and United remain in the mix.
