It looks like Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy is set for a temporary move away from St James’ Park.
As well as Newcastle United journalists reporting the imminent loan move, local media down in Bolton are also saying (see below) that the 20 year old is heading to the League One club.
Bolton Wanderers are currently ninth in the third tier but only three points adrift of the play-offs and have a game in hand on those above them in the table.
Assuming it goes ahead, this looks a decent loan move for Alex Murphy, who like all young players, needs to get regular first team football to show what he can do.
Last season he was a regular on the bench as the injuries piled up, 19 times named in the NUFC Premier League matchday squads and getting two brief sub appearances.
This season only named in the Premier League matchday squad four times so far for Newcastle United, as well as a few cup matches, however, not getting any minutes on the pitch.
Alex Murphy was an unused sub against Bromley in the FA Cup earlier this month and clearly needs a loan move to progress his development.
WANDERERS are close to wrapping up the loan signing of Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy on loan.
The Irish defender – who can play as a centre-half or left-back – has been made available for his first move away from Tyneside.
Murphy joined Newcastle from Galway United in July 2022 and has been regularly featured in the first team squad under Eddie Howe, making his debut as a substitute against Chelsea in November 2023.
