Newcastle United now set to go level with Liverpool…?

Newcastle United hunting down Liverpool?
Measuring up NUFC against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League teams are outperforming their rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning.
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
With less than six weeks to go of the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of Thursday 17 April 2025):
28 and 5 Liverpool
21 and 10 Forest
21 and 10 Man City
20 and 9 Villa
18 and 12 Palace
17 and 10 Brighton
17 and 10 Chelsea
17 and 12 Fulham
16 and 12 Bournemouth
16 and 19 Tottenham
15 and 15 Brentford
14 and 16 Man U
13 and 19 Wolves
10 and 12 Everton
10 and 17 West Ham
7 and 24 Leicester
6 and 20 Ipswich
6 and 28 Southampton
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are (currently!) second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.
It is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side.
However, last night’s Newcastle win over Crystal Palace has closed the gap to only one.
If Newcastle United make it seven wins in a row on Saturday, at Villa Park, they will be then tied with Liverpool, who play on Sunday away at Leicester City.
It would be quite astonishing if by the end of the season, Newcastle could potentially match the number of Liverpool domestic wins this campaign, or even possibly exceed the scousers’ total of wins.
Newcastle now with six more wins than Forest and Man City, seven more than Arsenal and Villa, nine or more than the rest.
To put this into proper context, quite incredible the number of Newcastle United domestic wins this 2024/25 season, compare it to past recent seasons:
14 wins – 2020/21
13 wins – 2021/22
24 wins – 2022/23
27 wins – 2024/25 (with six matches still to go!)
