“No way you can be confident” – Popular pundit names reason for big Chelsea issue | OneFootball

A pundit has named what I believe to be the reason for one big Chelsea issue that we are facing every game right now.

The news comes after Chelsea were defeated by Arsenal in the Premier League yesterday, losing to a first half headed goal by Mikel Merino.

The game was obviously not without its drama and Chelsea fans saw what they expect to see every time Robert Sanchez starts, and that is him making a silly mistake and giving away a goal. This time he got lucky, but Maresca continued to back his goalkeeper at the full time whistle once again.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was seen mocking Maresca on the side lines in an interaction that has annoyed Blues fans even more.

All in all it wasn’t a good performance from Chelsea and it lacked intensity, desire, energy, and any kind of real belief that they could get something from the game.

The result and performance has been picked up by a number of pundits since, and Ian Wright is the latest to offer critique to Chelsea.

Wrighty not impressed

‘I watched Chelsea against Arsenal and I thought they were really poor in every aspect,’ he said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show. ‘Obviously, they’re very much missing Noni Maduke and Nicolas Jackson and obviously, Cole Palmer didn’t play.

‘They haven’t got anyone to stretch the team or anyone to control the game so as you can pass to these players who were doing so well at the start of the season.

‘They didn’t look like they were going to score yesterday and there’s no way you can be confident as a defender playing in front of Robert Sanchez.’

And this for me is the main reason Chelsea have a big issue in defence right now.
