The preseason is about a week away, and New York City FC has not made any signings as of yet. There have been some departures, and the fans are waiting for the club to announce a new head coach. Nick Cushing was thankfully let go, and it appears Pascal Jansen will be the next person to lead the Pigeons.
As always, there are still plenty of stories to cover while the offseason is ongoing. Here is the latest NYCFC news roundup.
If you missed the news, James Sands was loaned out to FC St. Pauli until the end of June, with the possibility of the deal being extended for the following Bundesliga season.
The NYCFC Homegrown player has a chance to make his official debut this weekend. However, he already made his debut for the team in a friendly on Sunday. St. Pauli played against Eintracht Braunschweig, a team in the 2. Bundesliga. Sands started the match and played the first half. His new side fell 2-1 and it is unknown how he played in the first match.
If he does make his Bundesliga debut, then he will do so against Eintracht Frankfurt. It will be a tough game for 14th place St. Pauli, so it will be an intriguing watch. Ideally, Sands will perform well regardless of when he makes his official debut.
In some shocking news, NYCFC striker, Jovan Mijatović, has been reported to have hit a woman in a car accident back home in his native Serbia. According to Sportal, the striker hit a woman on Saturday who was walking across the street. She was apparently not walking on a pedestrian crossway.
The woman is in critical condition and her status as of this morning is unknown. Mijatović did remain on the scene, waiting for the first responders, including the police. He was immediately tested for alcohol and was not under the influence. However, the speed of the car and the speed limit of where he was driving is also unknown.
Meanwhile, there is another report from the Serbian website Alo! that the police were searching for the woman prior to the accident. Local authorities have not verified this.
Hopefully, the woman will survive, and more information will be released over the coming days. What this means for the NYCFC striker is yet to be determined.
