Official: Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals | OneFootball

Having secured a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with their win over SL Benfica last night, FC Barcelona have now learned their opponent for the upcoming stage of the competition.

Unlike in the past, where draws would take place after each knockout phase, the Champions League this season has a defined path for teams with the bracket being defined soon after the knockout playoffs.

As such, Barça had two potential opponents for the quarter-finals in Borussia Dortmund and Lille. And it is the German club who will lock horns with the La Liga leaders in the final eight.

Having played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Round-of-16 tie in Germany last week, Dortmund managed to secure a 2-1 win in tonight’s second leg thus setting up a date with Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund already faced off this season in the league phase, securing a hard-fought 3-2 win at Signal Iduna Park, with Ferran Torres shining with a match-winning brace.

Since then, the Bundesliga club have had a change of managers, with Niko Kovac taking the reins from Nuri Sahin.

The first leg of the quarter-finals will be played at home at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic (8-9 April). The reverse fixture will take place at Signal Iduna Park (15-16 April).

Should the Blaugrana prevail and make it to the semi-finals, they will face the winners of the tie between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
