After confirmation that RB Leipzig announced the permanent signing of Xavi Simons, the departure of transfer flop Eljif Elmas was confirmed yesterday. All major German footballing media sources report that the Turin club have received a reported €18m purchase option as part of the deal.

Such a sum naturally doesn’t offset the reported €24m Leipzig paid to acquire there North Macedonian international approximately one year ago. Due to his inability to accrue playing time (just two starts in the last 12 months), Elmas’ estimated market worth has fallen to just half that. He remains under contract with his German club until 2028.

Elmas played 143 games for Napoli between 2019 and 2024, scoring 14 goals and contributing ten assists. Elmas is expected to improve the offensive play of the northern Italians, who currently have 23 goals after 22 match days and occupy 10th-place in the Serie A table.

“We wish Eljif every success in Turin,” RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer noted in a club statement. “The loan is currently the best solution for everyone. Eljif will get the opportunity to gain a lot of playing practice in a league he knows well.”
