On this day, six years ago, Tottenham Hotspur overcame arch rivals Arsenal with a 2-0 win at the Emirates, to book their place into the 18/19 Carabao Cup semi-finals.

For this particular North London derby, Mauricio Pochettino opted for a line up of; Gazzaniga; Trippier, Alderweireld, Davies, Rose; Sissoko, Winks; Lucas, Dele, Eriksen; Son. In the second half, Kane and Lamela came on as substitutes. Vorm, Walker-Peters, Foyth, Skipp and Llorente were unused subs.

Six years since North London derby win in the Carabao Cup

After just 12 minutes, Gazzaniga was called into action, making a superb save, down low to his right, to deny Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who had tried to, in a disguised manner, drag the ball into his near post.

Eight minutes later, Spurs would make them pay. An exquisite through ball from Dele found Son alone, in on goal – and despite attention from a defender, had enough time to cut inside onto his left foot, and fire the ball into the bottom corner. Superb goal all around.

On the half hour mark, Poch’s side had a big chance to make it two. Lucas made a superbly timed slide tackle just inside his own box, which lead to a quick break. Sissoko played a give and go with Eriksen, receiving the ball in space, but ballooned his effort well over the bar.

Then, just before the hour mark, one minute after coming on as a sub, Kane superbly controlled a long ball from Gazzaniga with his chest, before playing Dele over the top with a supreme pass. The then 22-year old took control of the ball, before firing an audacious lob with the outside of his foot into the back of the net.

That would be enough to secure a 2-0 win for Spurs, sending them through to the semi-finals. From the team that started (or came on) that day, only Davies and Son are still at the club. The former getting his centre back in a four practise in way ahead of time.

At the moment, Gazzaniga plays for Girona, whilst Trippier is at Newcastle United, and Alderweireld at his hometown club, Royal Antwerp. Meanwhile, Rose has retired, and Winks plays for Leicester City. Having left for two years, Sissoko is currently in his second spell at Watford, and Lucas is back at Sao Paolo.

Current free agent Dele is reported to soon start training with Como, whilst Eriksen is at Manchester United. As for the used subs, Kane is at Bayern Munich, and Lamela at AEK Athens.

Finally, the unused subs – Llorente and Vorm have retired, Walker-Peters played against Spurs for Southampton on Sunday, Foyth is at Villarreal, and Skipp is with Winks at Leicester.
