Chelsea had plenty of links to Boubacar Kamara when he was at Marseille, and those links have now resurfaced following a strong season for Aston Villa.

CaughtOffside report that we’re really keen on him and are joining a list of Premier League teams ready to try and bring him in. They call him “one of the Premier League’s most underrated performers” and point to how he’s established himself this year after struggling with injuries in the 2023-2024 season.

Villa are now ready to offer the France international a major new contract which will make him one of the best paid players in club history.

Kamara no longer a likely Chelsea target

More than anything, the reason we’re not convinced by this one is that there’s such an influx of midfielders ready to play for us next season already on the books.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo make up a really strong first pair. Then we hear that Kendry Paez is being lined up as an Enzo understudy. Dario Essugo is coming in to back up Caicedo. Andrey Santos should return from his loan ready to plan an important role.

Then there’s like the likes of Lesley Ugochukwu, who looks good enough to be a 5th choice player in midfield even after struggling on loan this season, plus a host of rising academy talents still in the Under 21s or now on loan who are more than good enough to be squad players.

And that’s all without even thinking about Romeo Lavia, who has had an injury nightmare so far at Chelsea but could turn the corner on that front at any moment and become an important player.

Kamara would have been a dream signing for us a few years ago, but at 25 and with a Premier League price tag, it just feels unlikely now.
