Brendan Rodgers has a big dilemma with the return of Cameron Carter-Vickers imminent.
It was a bitter blow to find out that he was unavailable for the tough trip to face Atalanta, after just hearing he had returned to training, but such was the performance of both Liam Scales and Auston Trusty, it meant that we didn’t really miss the presence of the big strong man at all.

Carter-Vickers will be now nearing full fitness after a few more days training under his belt and he could be ready for selection as early as Sunday when we travel to Fir Park to take on Motherwell.
CCV is a guaranteed starter in our side, that’s not in question, but how do you leave one of either Liam Scales or Auston Trusty out after the effort they put in on Wednesday night?

Maybe CCV will have to do with a place on the bench on Sunday, but going forward Brendan will have to choose who he wants to partner our Big Strong Man on a regular basis.
Of course having three central defenders we can rely on to perform at the highest level is re-assuring and perhaps the urgency to sign a right-sided central defender in January by Football Doctor Paul Tisdale has been eased by the wonderful performance from Auston Trusty on Wednesday night.

The more top players we have, the hard task it is to pick the team, but that’s why Brendan is on the big bucks at the end of the day. If both are fit and recovered sufficiently from that incredible shift in Bergamo then you would imagine that Scales and Trusty will start again Motherwell, even if CCV is able to play.
