Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho feels for club employees who are being put out of their jobs, but still defends Sir Jim Ractliffe.

While the club’s majority owners, the Glazer family, remain public enemy number one at Stretford End, Ractliffe and his group, INEOS, who acquired a minority stake, haven’t covered themselves in glory either.

The British billionaire and his collaborators have embarked on a seemingly never-ending mission to cut the club’s costs. Therefore, around 450 employees have lost their jobs already, while those who were lucky enough to remain in their posts have been affected by some of the measures taken by the new administration.

But when asked to comment on his former club’s less-than-ideal atmosphere, Mourinho said he doesn’t know the exact details of what’s going on at Carrington these days, but insisted Ratcliffe is not a terrible person by any means.

“I don’t know much about what’s happening at Man United… I know Sir Jim Ratcliffe. I’m not saying we’re big friends but we have a good relationship,” he told Sky (via Fabrizio Romano).

“I know him well, he invited me to his house a couple of times. I see him as a good person and a great businessman. I feel for some people losing their jobs, but hopefully it goes in the right direction.”

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Spurs coach is currently in charge of Fenerbahce. He reveals his job is keeping him busy, so he hasn’t had the opportunity to chat with his countryman and successor at United Ruben Amorim as of late

“He has no time, I have no time. He is independent, I have my job to do. No more than that. But, he knows that I wish him well.”
