Postecoglou says he could do something ‘radical’ in Europa League final against Man Utd

Ange Postecoglou has not ruled out doing something “radical” to address the loss of three creative players for the Europa League final against Manchester United
Spurs will be without Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall for the game with all three suffering long-term injuries in recent weeks.
It means Postecoglou will have to do without a notable lack of creativity, with Maddison racking up 23 goal involvement in all competitions this season and Kulesevski being involved in 21.
And the Tottenham boss says he could opt to do something like change a player’s usual position in order to get more creativity into the team when they take on United, though insists there will be no significant changes to his normal system.
“When you’re in this position, you’re always kind of going through all the different scenarios,” he said.
“A lot of it will depend on let’s see how we get through tomorrow night (against Aston Villa). Let’s see how people get through the game.
“There’s obviously a few players who will play tomorrow night who haven’t played regularly or a lot lately that will get an opportunity and there could be a performance that convinces me to go one way or another.
“But you consider it all. Even if you do something radical like a positional change, it’s always better done in the confines of still having a real solid foundation there so our foundation is not going to change in terms of the way we play, the way we set up for the most part.
“If you do that and there’s one positional change for a player, it still has the possibility of working.”
The trio’s absence comes as yet another injury blow for Tottenham and Postecoglou, who have had to battle persistent injury problems throughout the season.
“It gives you a little bit more of a challenge because they all sort of play in that area,” Postecoglou said. “Not exactly the same players but they’re all the creative types in midfield and have filled that role really well for us at different times.
“It’s another challenge but that’s been a constant this year, we’ve always had to try and find creative ways of covering the absences we’ve had and we’ll find a way to do that.”
