Rangers might not sign any new players this January

Eagle eyed regulars of Ibrox Noise will have noticed there has been a general lack of transfer speculation and news besides our Shankland story this morning.

The reason is simple. CEO Patrick Stewart has made it pretty clear. We simply do not have the money. This means almost any reputational speculation is borderline fallse.

We are getting information daily of players that Rangers are reportedly interested in but with the lack of finance and that promise from the CEO that we can only get in one body or so it does seem a little bit redundant.

Does this mean that we are simply not signing any new players? We clearly desperately need defenders, but the money is not there to acquire them. Even free agents cost wages and we don’t have a lot of spare capital for that purpose.

Young Clinton may have done rather well at the weekend but throwing a 19-year-old into the deep end is exactly what ruined the career of Leon King.

The fact is, we are slim at the back but without the finance to fix that and may have to rely on the likes of Young Clinton, which is far from ideal for anyone.

This is fundamentally why we’re not bringing many player stories to you at the moment. We know that one or two may come in but that is really about it.

If we learn of new investment and the potential for actual signings this month then obviously that changes the landscape.

Time will tell.
