Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund has strongly suggested that bringing in a more experienced striker would have been more beneficial for his development, as he continues to face mounting pressure at the club.

Hojlund has endured another extremely difficult season at United, scoring only four Premier League goals all term.

His poor performances have been a constant source of frustration for supporters and his display in last week’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea was another stark reminder that he does not have what it takes to be the main man up front.

There have been suggestions that United are eager to offload him this summer, even as he attracts interest from Serie A.

Over the weekend, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that a section of United chiefs believe Hojlund doesn’t work hard enough and patience with him is growing thin as the summer transfer window approaches.

Typically, players aren’t too eager about their clubs signing potential replacements, but in an interview with TNT Sports, Hojlund admitted that he could actually benefit from such a move.

He pointed out that in his first season at the club, Anthony Martial was there to share the goalscoring burden with him.

“You can put it in two ways – you can do it like you say [learn from other players] or you can be thrown in like I’ve been. I think you gain experience from both ways.”

“I’m obviously not going to sit here and say I don’t want to play, but then again, last year Anthony [Martial] was there and he played here for loads of years, but he was unlucky and got injuries, so I had to take a lot of the game time.”

“That [Martial playing] could have been nice, especially in the beginning, because I was new and had to learn my way to be a United player, get used to these facilities and find a house and it would have been nice to have a bit of support.”

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s Europa League final meeting with Tottenham Hotspur, Hojlund remarked, “There’s a lot of opinions and pressure at this football club, but then again you’re going to be written into history if you do win.”

“That’s why I’m here – I want to be part of this great club’s history and want to be remembered.”

The 22-year-old admitted that he and his teammates have not been good enough in the Premier League.

“Domestically, it’s not been great, but we’re here to win trophies and if we can get that over the line on Wednesday, it’s going to be an amazing thing to do. It’s going to be a big game. Two clubs obviously that have been struggling in the domestic league, but then in a European final, it’s incredible.”

“It’s going to be an important game for both teams, a good team we’re going to face, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity.”

United vs. Tottenham kicks off at 20:00 BST.
