Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Saturday's derby.
Both sides were still waiting for the first shot on target of the game when Atletico were awarded a penalty 34 minutes in. VAR spotted a foul from Aurelien Tchouameni on Samuel Lino, and up stepped Julian Alvarez to chip his effort right down the middle and fire Atletico ahead in a turgid first half - the fifth of the season in which Real Madrid have failed to manage a shot on target.
Carlo Ancelotti clearly ordered more from his side at the interval, and Kylian Mbappe duly provided five minutes after the restart. Jude Bellingham's close-range strike was deflected back into his path and the Frenchman made no mistake on the rebound.
Bellingham saw a header come back off the crossbar just moments later, before another headed effort drew a smart save from Jan Oblak. The Atletico stopper was wise to efforts from both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo as Real Madrid pushed for a late winner, securing his side a share of the spoils as a result.
