Dani Ceballos has been heavily linked with a departure from Real Madrid for months together now.

The Spanish midfielder was on the exit ramp in the summer but ended up staying as there were no offers that satisfied Los Blancos, despite his previous club, Real Betis, engaging in talks.

Heading into the January window, the links to Betis have surfaced yet again with the Andalusian outfit seeking reinforcements in midfield after being hit by a spate of injuries.

Ceballos’ exit unlikely

However, according to AS, despite their interest, Real Betis are slowly starting to accept that a move for Ceballos in January could be ‘impossible’.

The report states that the Spaniard’s departure is extremely unlikely due to two main factors – firstly manager Carlo Ancelotti’s admiration of the player and then his recent form.

It is no secret that Ancelotti has always held Ceballos in the highest of regards even though he has been unable to give him regular game-time.

But that seems to be changing now as the ex-Real Betis man has been receiving minutes on the pitch recently after returning from injury.

And Ceballos seems to be making the most of the chances, delivering extremely impressive performances in the games against Leganes and Getafe, where he started.

The midfielder’s form, coupled with Ancelotti’s fondness for him, are likely to lead to him staying at the club beyond the winter transfer window, forcing Real Betis to look at alternatives in the market.

Given the number of injuries that Real Madrid have had this season, it would be imprudent of them to offload a player who is proving that he can be useful for the team.
