Thibaut Courtois has been an excellent player for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish capital club from Chelsea in the summer of 2018.

The 32-year-old Belgian shot-stopper has been integral to the success that Real Madrid have achieved since, be it under Zinedine Zidane or now under Carlo Ancelotti.

Courtois is set to turn 33 years old in a couple of months and his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2026.

There have been murmurs of interest from Saudi Arabia in the former Chelsea ace and while there has been no indication that either he or Real Madrid are looking to part ways anytime soon, it makes sense for the club to start planning for the future.

Lucas Chevalier seen as potential successor

As such, Fichajes reports that Real Madrid see Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as a potential long-term successor to Thibaut Courtois as their No. 1.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the finest young goalkeepers in Europe currently and has attracted the interest of several big clubs across Europe.

Current La Liga leaders Barcelona have shown an interest in Chevalier and it now appears that Real Madrid have also taken a liking to the Frenchman, whose market value is estimated to be around €30 million and has a contract with Lille until 2027.

While Real Madrid might like Chevalier, it is not suggested that they are planning a move for him in the near future.

After all, Courtois is still going very strong and remains an integral part of the team. And in Andriy Lunin, the reigning Spanish and European champions have a reliable backup.

So for now, there does not seem to be anything concrete as far as Real Madrid and Chevalier are concerned apart from the sign that they see him as an able successor for Courtois.
