Real Madrid attempted to open contract talks with star forward Vinicius Junior, but were told to wait by his agents, as Saudi Arabia tried to persuadee him into a €1b contract for the coming five years. Los Blancos consider the Al-Ahli their biggest obstacle to signing a new contract with the Brazilian.
As per Relevo, Vinicius did consider leaving Real Madrid for Saudi Arabia, but decided that it was not the time to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, with plenty of time to head to the Middle East later in his career. That is part of the reason that Los Blancos are optimistic over a new contract for their star.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia spoke with his agents in December once again, and once again manifesting their interest in Vinicius for this coming summer. They are set to come back with the €1b contract offer, and are optimistic about their own chances of signing him sooner or later. In their bid to ward off the attraction of the Saudi oil money, Real Madrid are keen to tie up a new contract with Vinicius before the end of the season.
Certainly if Vinicius does reach the summer without a new Real Madrid deal, then the noise from Saudi Arabia could become a distraction as they will no doubt do their best to persuade him. If Vinicius goes beyond the summer without a new contract, with his current one up in 2027, then the clock will also start ticking for Real Madrid too, which will be unfavourable for their negotiations.
