Real Madrid star played through injury for almost 80 minutes vs Barcelona | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid saw out the vast majority of his time on the pitch against Barcelona on Sunday whilst in possession of a fitness problem.

That’s according to a number of sources across the Spanish media, who point towards Lucas Vázquez as the player in question.

Right-back Vázquez, for his part, featured from the off yesterday evening, as Real Madrid made the trip to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga showdown with arch rivals Barcelona.

En route to a 4-3 defeat for his side, however, the experienced Spaniard suffered an injury setback.

Real Madrid announced as much in an official statement on Monday, confirming:

‘Following tests carried out today on Lucas Vázquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the pectineus muscle in his left thigh. His recovery will be monitored.’

And according to Blancos insider Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, as much was picked up inside the opening 10 minutes at Montjuïc:

‘According to sources close to the player, he was injured in the 7th minute of the Clásico, but he tried to hold on until he was finally substituted in the 84th minute.’
