Things appear to be moving fast as far as Real Madrid and their pursuit of Liverpool heavyweight Trent Alexander-Arnold are concerned.

The 26-year-old right-back is the top target for Los Blancos to reinforce the defensive line and they have been laying the groundwork to sign him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 for months now.

However, the injury to Dani Carvajal forced Real Madrid to approach Liverpool with an offer to sign Alexander-Arnold in January itself for a fee, only for them to face strong rejection.

Real Madrid could approach Liverpool again

Now, providing further details on the situation, MARCA reports that Real Madrid could launch another approach for Alexander-Arnold in January, considering that the transfer window is still not even open.

Liverpool, for their part, are said to be aware that their homegrown player is unlikely to stay beyond June 30, having rejected multiple contract renewal proposals already.

In fact, the report even claims that Alexander-Arnold has even informed the Reds’ management a few weeks ago that he intends to join Real Madrid when his contract runs out.

As such, the ball is now in Liverpool’s court and they must decide whether to lose one of their greatest assets for free in the summer or recoup some cash in January, with Real Madrid willing to offer around €20-25 million.

Alexander-Arnold, for his part, has been upfront with his boyhood club about the situation, with an agreement with Los Blancos understood to be very close.

However, he is unlikely to force an exit in the winter window while the Merseysiders refuse to negotiate a January exit either.

As such, everything points at the England right-back arriving at Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.
