Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad on Thursday night as Ruben Amorim's team returned to Europa League action in the last 16 first leg.
A depleted side made the trip to northern Spain and partially bounced back from the disappointment of FA Cup elimination at the hands of Fulham last weekend.
Joshua Zirkzee handed United the lead early in the second half, having been marginally the better side up to that point in the game. But a fortuitous penalty, converted by Mikel Oyarzabal, midway through the second period brought the hosts back level.
Confidence from the equaliser saw La Real finish the stronger of the two sides and Andre Onana made two big second half saves - including one in stoppage time. But the tie remains finely balanced ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford in seven days' time.
