Real Madrid have decided against pursuing Bayern Munich captain Joshua Kimmich, claims a report from Real Madrid Confidencial.

Although Kimmich is a world-class player, the club has ruled out the idea of signing him, despite his contract situation, which might have made him an appealing target.

Over the past year, Real Madrid have developed a reputation for signing top players who are entering the final year of their contracts, a strategy that has worked well for them.

The club successfully brought in players like David Alaba, Antonio Ridiger, and Kylian Mbappe, all of whom joined without Real Madrid having to pay a transfer fee.

Now, they are looking to replicate that model by adding more reinforcements at no cost, and it seemed like English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold might be the next to follow suit.

Why did they reject Kimmich?

Interestingly, Kimmich’s situation is different. Although the 29-year-old midfielder is considered a high-calibre player, Real Madrid have ultimately decided that he is not the right fit for their current needs.

The club had briefly considered him as a potential replacement for the departing Toni Kroos in the midfield, with Kimmich’s style of play—particularly his control and passing ability—making him a strong candidate on paper.

But after careful consideration, Real Madrid decided against pursuing him further.

Real Madrid are exploring options

One of the main reasons behind this decision is that the club feels Kimmich has already reached his peak and is unlikely to improve significantly in the coming years.

With Kimmich approaching 30, Real Madrid believe that there are better long-term options available.

They are focused on finding players who can offer more growth and reliability over an extended period, rather than bringing in someone who may not have the same potential for development.

As a result, despite Kimmich’s quality and experience, Real Madrid have chosen to look elsewhere for a midfielder to replace Kroos.
