Referee Sven Jablonski has revealed why he allowed Jamal Musiala's equaliser to stand despite Niklas Süle being down after being struck on the face moments earlier.
Jamal Musiala spared Bayern Munich's blushes and rescued a draw for them away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening. The Borussia Dortmund players were furious that the goal was allowed to stand, as Niklas Süle was on the ground after being struck by the ball on his face moments before and was thus unable to help defend the cross that was turned home by Musiala.
Nico Schlotterbeck said after the game that he felt the referee should have awarded Borussia Dortmund a free-kick. While Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany said that the goal was rightly awarded.
Sven Jablonski, who officiated the game and awarded the goal, also explained his reasoning in an interview with Sky Sport.
"It was a shot on goal. You have to see if he deflects the ball with his hand. It was an important scene. The shot is blocked and then I follow the ball because the play continues immediately afterwards and a goal is scored immediately afterwards. I decided on [awarding the] goal and I wasn't sure whether there was a serious head injury."
The draw helped Bayern Munich maintain their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings. Borussia Dortmund remain fifth, ten points behind Bayern but only one point shy of fourth placed RB Leipzig.
Next up for the Black and Yellows is a trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on December 7.
