Liverpool fans appear to be set for a nail-biting second half of the season.

Not just simply due to the fact the Reds have a good chance of lifting several pieces of silverware in 2024/25, including a Manchester United record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

The futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold appear no closer to being resolved with their contracts running out this summer.

The Egyptian and Dutch internationals may not have the prospect of a switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid to contend with, though it’s becoming increasingly clear that Saudi will look to make a play for the former.

One report coming out of Egyptian outlet Masrawy claims that the Reds remain in conflict with their star attacker over the key terms in a potential agreement.

The No.11 and his entourage are reportedly looking for a three-year deal that doesn’t compromise on salary. Liverpool, on the other hand, are understood to want to renew for one year on the same terms or reduce his salary and agree a two to three-year deal.

Failing that, the outlet cites an update from Nicola Shira claiming: “The Saudi Al-Hilal Club is preparing to submit a huge financial offer to convince Mohamed Salah to sign a contract as a free player with a contract until 2028, which is the period that Salah asked Liverpool officials to sign.

“Al-Hilal Club’s offer is not the only one on the table of Mohamed Salah and his agent Rami Abbas; as international press reports indicated that there is interest from Paris Saint-Germain club officials in contracting with the player during the upcoming summer transfer.”

There has to be a compromise

We don’t want to diminish Salah’s worth – we firmly believe he’s the best attacking talent in world football at this current point in time.

He deserves a level of compensation that reflects that. However, given that the former Roma hitman’s options may be PSG or a switch to the Middle East, we’d like to think there’s a little wiggle room on his and the club’s end to ensure he’s not forced into an exit.

With the greatest of respect to the French champions and clubs in the Saudi Pro League – any such move would be a notable step down for the Egyptian King.
