According to reports from TBR Football, Tottenham scouts have been closely monitoring Chris Rigg, a talented 17-year-old midfielder from Sunderland, currently playing in the Championship.
Rigg has been making headlines for his record-breaking achievements. He became Sunderland’s youngest-ever league and EFL Cup scorer and made his professional debut in the FA Cup at just 15, becoming the club’s second-youngest player in history.
One standout moment in his young career was a stunning backheel goal against Middlesbrough, which earned him the Championship’s Goal of the Month award for September 2024.
This season, Rigg has already scored three goals in 15 Championship appearances, showcasing his growing influence.
Tottenham’s interest in Rigg aligns with their broader strategy of securing promising young players. Recently, the club has signed emerging stars like Luka Vuskovic, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert, and South Korean winger Yang Min-Hyeok.
However, Spurs face stiff competition for Rigg’s signature. Premier League rivals Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, and Brentford are also reportedly keen on the Sunderland prodigy.
If Tottenham successfully sign Rigg, the plan would likely involve loaning him back to Sunderland or another Championship side.
This approach would allow him to gain valuable first-team experience and refine his skills before making the step up to the senior squad in North London.
Spurs are determined to secure Rigg as part of their youth-focused investment strategy, which has already started to pay dividends.
Should he join, the young midfielder will have the opportunity to develop further before returning to the club ready to compete at the highest level.
It’s clear the club is focusing on a strategy that combines immediate competitiveness with future growth, a balance that could define their trajectory in the seasons to come.
