Robert Sanchez admitted it was important not to lose against Everton after the Blues were held to a draw, whilst he described the game as complicated.

Chelsea failed to score in the league for the first time since the opening game of the season as Everton defended well and frustrated the Blues.

The result means Chelsea stay second but they are now four points behind leaders Liverpool, whilst third placed Arsenal have closed the gap on Maresca’s men to just two points.

The Blues could have left Goodison Park with all three points and a sixth Premier League win in a row, but Nicolas Jackson was guilty of missing two golden opportunities.

Outside of those chances the Blues were limited to very little and Cole Palmer struggled to have an influence on the game, whilst Chelsea’s attack in general was subdued.

It could have been much worse for Enzo Maresca’s men had Sanchez not made a brilliant save at the start of the second half, whilst Tosin Adarabioyo stopped a certain goal with a superb block.

Sanchez had one of his better games for the Blues and deserves credit for keeping his team in the game, and speaking afterwards he described the game as complicated.

“Very difficult conditions [with] the wind and rain,” he said as cited on X.com.

“But it’s a stadium that has always been hard to come for any team. In a game that gets complicated, the important thing is not to lose. We got one point and we’re happy with the performance.”

Sanchez has come under heavy criticism this season, but if he can perform like he did at Goodison Park on a regular basis there wouldn’t be conversations about Chelsea needing a new goalkeeper.

However, it remains to be seen if Sanchez is capable of that, and the Blues will be hoping he puts in another good performance on Boxing day as they look to return to winning ways against Fulham.
