Even though it can be said that Atalanta are still very much in the race for the Serie A title, the rumour mill is still churning out fresh news about their manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
The news today from Robert Maida (via Corierre dello Sport) is that Roma have firmly set their sights on the 67-year-old manager. Roma’s American owners, the Friedkin Group, have reportedly been eyeing Gasperini ever since he won Atalanta the Europa League title last season. The offer presently is that of a three year deal. It has been reported that Gasperini has already met current manager Claudio Ranieri and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi to discuss about the technical and financial situation of the club. That being said, there is no agreement as of yet.
Gasperini is said to be flattered by the interest but is not expected to make a decision before the season ends. When asked about Roma, he recently said, “It would be a source of pride. Roma is like the national team, everyone likes it. Who wouldn’t want to coach it? It’s a great place, with an exceptional crowd. But the season is not over, in two months’ time many things can happen that no one can predict at this moment. And I have to think about Atalanta, which still has a long way to go.”Gasperini decided not to renew his Atalanta contract beyond this summer and others such as Juventus, Milan and Napoli would be monitoring the situation too.
