Fabrizio Romano has started hammering a new angle on Chelsea transfer rumours.
Towards the end of the January window the name of Dario Essugo came up, although we assumed that our interested ended when we bought Mathis Amougou, another young central midfielder.
But Romano is back pursuing the idea of an Essugo move hard. It began with a video on his Youtube channel posted last night, where he repeated the interest he had first mentioned towards the end of the January window:
This was then reinforced by a Tweet which came out just now, holding a similar message about our interest in the dynamic midfield man, on loan at Las Palmas this season.
“Chelsea keep monitoring Dario Essugo for the future, after including his name in the January shortlist,” the insider wrote.
“2005 born midfielder considered an interesting talent, now on loan to Las Palmas from Sporting.”
His rising profile is attracting attention from all over, and it surprised some that Sporting let him go on loan this season when he looks ready for their first team already.

We were crying out for Chelsea to add a central midfielder in January, but we’re really not sure where this move would leave us. We’ve already got Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu out on loan. Then we’ve now added Amougou to that list.
That’s not even counting Sam Rak-Sakyi and the production line of academy talent constantly pushing to break through into out first team picture. Remember, these guys need need to be a fourth choice backup behind Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez. We don’t need them to start every week.
Ultimately Chelsea don’t need to SIGN more central midfielders, as talented as Essugo may be, they need to actually USE the ones they already own.
