Ruben Amorim explains Marcus Rashford snub for Carabao Cup defeat | OneFootball

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has insisted he has no regrets about once again leaving Marcus Rashford out of his squad for Thursday's Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Rashford, who admitted a desire for a "new challenge" after being dropped for the Manchester derby, watched on from home as Spurs secured a dramatic 4-3 victory, in which Alejandro Garnacho appeared off the bench after also being dropped for the derby.

Before the game, Amorim was asked to explain his decision to drop Rashford.

"Selection," he told Sky Sports. "I chose the players that I felt were ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game.

"I try to visualise all the week and then choose my players. Just selection."

It was a risk that did not pay off here as United were dumped out of the cup, but Amorim insisted he would not hesitate to make the same decision again is given the chance.

"If I feel I do the right thing for the team, it was never a mistake," the United head coach continued. "We have to make a selection. It was not a mistake because I feel I'm doing the best for the team in my way of seeing things.

"The guys who came on the pitch [Amad Diallo and Garnacho] changed the game."

Amorim has already publicly stressed his desire to keep Rashford at United and once again insisted the door remains open to an immediate recall to the squad.

"Of course, he is a Manchester United player," Amorim concluded. "Tomorrow we have training, Marcus Rashford will be there, preparing for the next game, and you will see the selection."
