United head into the transfer window off the back of another miserable defeat, having gone down 2-0 to Newcastle on Monday night to make it six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions.

It leaves United in 14th place heading into 2025 as fans demand more investment to stop the club’s slide into an unthinkable relegation battle.

But manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that there is no money to improve the squad next month in a huge blog to the club’s prospects.

Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte all arrived and not one has overly impressed in their first half-season at the club.

Manchester Evening News report on Tuesday that any new signings will have to be funded by selling players.

Shipping out wantaway Marcus Rashford could be an option to raise funds, but his £325,000-a-week wages are proving a stumbling block.

Asked last night about signing players in January, a frustrated manager Ruben Amorim replied: "We don’t have that possibility in January.

"You know the situation better than I [do]. It’s not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team.

“You know the situation so it’s not a point to talk about it."
