Brighton kept their European hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux.

Danny Danny Welbeck converted a first-half penalty, and substitute Brajan Gruda netted his maiden goal for the south coast club late on to secure the win.

Wolves’ best chance fell to Matheus Cunha, whose acrobatic effort forced an outstanding stop from goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

The Seagulls now sit ninth in the Premier League table, level on points with Brentford, who occupy eighth.

Wolves missed several opportunities before the interval and looked more threatening for large spells of the second half following a triple change from head coach Vitor Pereira.

Welbeck, 34, reached double digits for league goals in a single season for the first time since his debut campaign with Manchester United back in 2009.

Gruda, 20, who arrived from Mainz last summer, sealed the win with a composed chip over Jose Sa in the 85th minute.

With three matches left to play and other results in the balance, Brighton remain in contention for back-to-back seasons in European competition.
