Juventus have reportedly received a boost in their attempts to land Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee this month.

The Dutchman has been enduring horrendous times since joining the Red Devils last summer, culminating in an embarrassing first-half exit against Newcastle United amidst cheers from some of the Old Trafford faithful.

This traumatic experience could well and truly spell the end of the 23-year-old time with the Red Devils, especially considering how he’s not exactly Ruben Amorim’s cup of tea with the way he interprets the centre-forward role.

Over the past few months, Zirkzee has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A where he would reunite with his former Bologna manager Thiago Motta at Juventus. But while the club’s Director of Football Cristiano Giuntoli had often denied the arrival of a new striker in January, he has apparently adopted a more lenient approach in his most recent interview when asked about the Man Utd struggler.

“Honestly we have never spoken to United, they have some situations to resolve at the moment, I don’t know what could happen later,” said the Juventus official in his interview with Sport Mediaset (via TuttoJuve).

“In general, without talking about individuals, I think Juve should wait and see given Milik’s injury. We also have to enhance the defence. Obviously we will wait and see, but there is really nothing yet.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb), Giuntoli’s words hint that the Bianconeri are willing to jump on the opportunity to sign Zirkzee given the right circumstances.

The Italian source claims the Serie A giants have an agreement in principle with the player’s agent Kia Joorabchian over a January move, while Man United are now open to offloading the Netherlands international on loan with an obligation to buy which could be the opening that Juve need since they cannot afford to seal a permanent transfer at this stage.
