Parma will have to postpone their celebration of Serie A safety, as Gabriel Strefezza and some truly shocking finishing gave Como victory.

While Cesc Fabregas and co were already safe, the Ducali needed one last push to be mathematically sure of Serie A status. Pontus Almqvist, Alessandro Vogliacco, Adrian Bernabé, Matteo Cancellieri, Valentin Mihaila and Gabriel Charpentier were just some of the injury absentees, while Como missed Alberto Dossena, Assane Diao, Sergi Roberto and Ivan Azon.

It was an aggressive Como start, as Patrick Cutrone’s weak finish was straight at Zion Suzuki, while Jonathan Ikone’s acrobatic back-heel flick was over the bar from a Maxence Caqueret cross.

Suzuki got down quickly for a fantastic one-handed reaction save to keep out the Marc Kempf header on a corner.

Parma wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead moments later, as Ange-Yoan Bonny managed to squirm to the by-line and flick it back off the outside of the boot, only for Mateo Pellegrino to blast over from six yards.

The hosts came out fighting for the second half, a crucial Maxi Perrone block preventing a tap-in on the Antoine Hainaut pull-back, then on the resulting corner Pellegrino’s header bounced off the ground and onto the crossbar.

Emanuele Valeri couldn’t get enough on the ball as he came sliding in to meet a Hainaut cross at the back post, while Nico Paz forced Suzuki to fingertip a very long-range scorcher over the bar.

Como really should’ve taken the lead on 72 minutes when Ikone sprung the offside trap and sent Suzuki to ground with a shimmy, but then incredibly hit the side-netting.

Parma also wasted a great chance, as Valeri tried to return the pass to Jacob Ondrejka rather than go for goal and the move fell apart.

Moments later, Como scored instead, as Douvikas sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top and his awful first touch turned into an accidental assist for Gabriel Strefezza to sweep home from nine yards.

The hosts simply should’ve equalised in stoppages when first Dennis Man forced a tricky save from Jean Butez from the edge of the area, then ran into the box and was ready to tap in the roll across from the left from six yards, only to somehow balloon over the bar.

Moments later, Man again threatened twice, forcing another Butez save and seeing his rebound deflected over by teammate Delprato.
