The Blades and the Hatters were interested in a move for Timothy Ouma, but he looks set to make the move to the Czech Republic.
Slavia Prague are set to sign IF Elfsborg midfielder Timothy Ouma, beating St Etienne to his signature.
This is according to Alan Nixon, who believes the Czech side have beaten several Premier League and Championship sides to secure his signature.
Aftonbladet reported earlier this month that Luton Town and Sheffield United were both interested in a move for Ouma, who has featured regularly for his team in the last year or so.
Making 23 appearances in the Swedish top flight during the 2024 campaign, he has also featured in the Europa League, providing him with excellent experience at a fairly young age.
And a move for the player now looks inevitable, but it doesn't look as though he will secure a switch to either Kenilworth Road or Bramall Lane.
According to Nixon, Ouma is set to sign for Slavia Prague in a deal that could total up to £3.5m.
They were in a battle with numerous sides for his signature, including teams from the first and second tiers of English football, with Luton and the Blades previously in the mix for him.
But it was French outfit St-Etienne that they had to outbid in the end - and they have been able to do that successfully - with the 20-year-old poised to make the move to the Czech Republic.
Slavia Prague are hoping they can seal the move within the next two days.
The central midfielder could have been a major long-term asset for both teams - and the pair could have benefitted from him.
United struggled with a lack of central midfielders at their disposal on Friday and that arguably led to their home defeat against Hull City.
Ouma could have made a short-term impact, and considering his age, he would only have improved.
They may not be too gutted about missing out on the 20-year-old if Hamza Choudhury, who is closing in on a move to South Yorkshire, proves to be a success during the second half of this season.
Luton, meanwhile, could have benefitted from having an extra spark in their team like Ouma, as they look to avoid the drop.
They arguably need to improve at both ends of the pitch first though, so he may not have been a key signing for them.
