Manchester City caused a stir on Friday morning after announcing that forward Erling Haaland had signed a stunning nine-and-a-half year deal – one of the biggest sports contracts ever agreed.

The Norwegian forward has been a sensation since he arrived at the Etihad in 2022, netting 111 times in 126 outings. He’s already broken a number of records in that time after his clinical displays in front of goal.

With Manchester City struggling on the pitch this season, there were fears that Haaland may want a new challenge – especially with the team set to miss out on the Premier League title.

But by putting pen to paper on a lengthy deal, Haaland has shown he is more than content on the blue side of Manchester and plotting to hit even more landmarks and etch his name into Premier League history.

Here, Squawka has taken a look at the possible records Haaland could – and probably will – break should he stay at City for the duration of his new nine-year deal.

All time Premier League top scorer

Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals is the one every Premier League striker has got their eye on. Harry Kane was on track to break it before he decided to leave Tottenham and join Bayern Munich last season.

With Kane out of the picture, Haaland is now the only realistic candidate to surpass Shearer. Bookmaker bet365 are even offering 2/1 odds on Haaland to score 260.5 Premier League goals.

He currently has 79 top-flight goals in 87 games, meaning he has quite a way to go to beat Shearer. If he continued to score at his rate of 0.92 per game, he would break it in just over 280 games. Theoretically, that would be around the halfway mark of the 2029-30 season.

Incredibly, Kane came mighty close to beating Shearer’s record after getting to 213 Premier League goals with Tottenham before joining the Bundesliga. Kane is only 31 and could possibly even return to the Premier League to finish what he started – so Haaland may have competition later down the line.

Most Premier League hat-tricks

This record is currently held by Sergio Aguero, who currently boasts an incredible 12 trebles during his trophy-laden decade-long spell at the Etihad.

Haaland is already on track to not only follow in Aguero’s footsteps, but better him. He has already got eight hat-tricks in just a fraction of the time Aguero spent at City.

His eight hat-tricks puts him level with Kane, Thierry Henry and Michael Owen. One more hat-trick will see him go level with Robbie Fowler on nine trebles. Meanwhile, Shearer himself is in second place on 11 hat-tricks.

This one you imagine is almost guaranteed, given Haaland’s clinical displays during his time in England so far. It’s not even inconceivable that he claims the record this season or next if he returns to his very best form.

Most Premier League player of the month awards

This is a minor record in the grand scheme of things but it’s another one Haaland must overcome Aguero to claim.

Aguero rounded off his Premier League career at Manchester City with seven player of the month awards, putting him level with former Tottenham star Kane.

Haaland has a way to go on this record. He has three Premier League Player of the Month awards so far. This might come as a surprise given how incredible his goal record has been, but he need only average one per season to leapfrog Aguero should he see out his contract.

Haaland’s three awards puts him level with a number of high profile players – including Gareth Bale, Robbie Keane, Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Sadio Mane, which perhaps show it’s not easy to be recognised with the gong.

Should he win another player of the month award, he’ll go level with the likes of Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Thierry Henry, Shearer and Dennis Bergkamp.

Two players have won it five times – Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie – while three players sit on six awards each in Steven Gerrard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.

Scoring in the opening six Premier League games of the season

Haaland came so close to taking home this record already – but after firing a blank in Manchester City’s 1-1 draw away at Newcastle on September 28 earlier this season, he’ll have to wait until next season to pull it off.

He had a barnstorming start to the campaign, as he hit ten Premier League goals in his first five matches of the season – including two hat-tricks – before being frustrated in the sixth match.

Amazingly, Haaland also came close to breaking the record in the 2023-24 as he scored eight goals in his opening six games, scoring in all but one of them – which was against Newcastle once again.

No prizes for guessing that Sergio Aguero also holds on to this record as things stand.

Quickest player to 100 Premier League goals

Another landmark Haaland will have to chase down Alan Shearer for. This is a big one and realistic to achieve too.

We know Haaland has scored 79 Premier League goals and he’s taken 87 games to do so. He only has another 21 goals to go before hitting his century and he has a bit of breathing room to pull it off.

Shearer took 124 games before scoring his own 100 goals, so Haaland has another 37 appearances to score 21 more times. Based on what we’ve seen from the 24-year-old, it should be more than doable.

Most Premier League Golden Boot awards

Haaland has had two full seasons at City and claimed the Golden Boot in both. The first year he did it with 36 goals, finishing above Harry Kane’s 30.

In his second season he hit 27, with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer never a realistic challenger on 22. This season is the first time he’s been trailing in the Premier League Golden Boot race, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah currently top on 18, two more than his 16 goals.

Haaland’s dip in form in the middle of the season – coinciding with Man City’s run of one win in 12 games – saw him go through a rough patch of netting just once in the league in seven matches, which surrendered his lead to Salah.

There’s still plenty of time to pull back in front of Salah – even though the Egyptian looks nearly unstoppable in front of goal lately after banging in nine goals in his last eight league matches.

The record of most Premier League Golden Boot awards belongs to Thierry Henry, who has a total of four from his time as the Premier League’s dominant force up front.

The Frenchman won it for the first time in 2000/01 with 24 strikes before claiming the prize three times in a row in 2002/03 (25), 2003-04 (30) and 2004/05 (25).
