Napoli have reportedly abandoned their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho after finding themselves an alternative solution.
The Partenopei have recently sold their top star Khvicha Kvaraskehlia to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving them with a deficiency on the wing. Hence, they swiftly identified the Argentine as their primary target to replace the departed Georgian.
Napoli were hoping to pounce on Garnacho’s lack of starting appearances at Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s arrival. But while the two clubs held several meetings during the week, they failed to bridge the gap between them, even when the Red Devils lowered their asking price from €75 million to €65 million, as the Italians refused to go beyond a package of €55 million.
Hence, Antonio Conte’s club swiftly shifted their attention towards Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi. The 22-year-old German should be available for around €40 million, thus making him a more affordable option for Napoli.

According to Sky Sport Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli and BVB have managed to find an agreement for Adeyemi. Therefore, it’s now up to the Azzurri to agree terms with the player. While the latter has yet to give the green light for the move to the Italian peninsula, Conte is attempting to persuade him by explaining the important role he’ll have in the project.
Nevertheless, this significant development doesn’t automatically close the door on Garnacho’s January exit. After all, the Argentine still has another important suitor in the shape of Chelsea who are reportedly preparing an onslaught in the next few days.
Moreover, Garnacho’s agent made an appearance at Stamford Bridge during the Blues’ Premier League contest against Wolves, thus fueling speculations over a potential transfer to West London.
