There has been an immediate response within German media following earlier claims of a decision having been made by Florian Wirtz over his next club.

The latest development follows earlier claims from Germany-based newspaper BILD suggesting that Wirtz – who is one of Europe’s most in-demand attacking midfielders – had informed Xabi Alonso of his intention to only move to Bayern Munich.

That suggestion comes amid competitive interest to Allianz Arena bosses from both La Liga giants Real Madrid and Manchester City, who are currently searching for a long-term replacement to the outgoing Kevin De Bruyne.

The same report suggested that Bayer Leverkusen were ‘unaware’ of Wirtz’s supposed decision, while neither they nor Bayern Munich wanted to comment on the matter when contacted by the newspaper.

Amid a global reaction to the claims emerging from Germany, a separate outlet from the same nation has responded with their own take via one of their most notable journalists reporting through social media platform, X.

According to the information of Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen’s ongoing point of view is that they have still not been informed of Florian Wirtz’s desire to leave the club, while there are certainly no negotiations taking place with any sides.

It is however reinstated that the clear plan from the side of player’s family and Wirtz himself is to first make a move to Bayern Munich, before taking the step of moving abroad later down the line in his top-level professional career.

Bayern Munich are still ‘very optimistic’ that a transfer for the 23-year-old will go through as early as this summer, with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions reportedly prepared to pay a salary of between €20 million and €25 million over a five-year contract.

From the side of Manchester City, the latest developments concerning their own search for refreshed legs in the middle of the park has seen the club’s links to Nottingham Forest and England international Morgan Gibbs-White intensify in the last few days.

Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano claimed this week that Etihad Stadium officials had planned to advance on a deal for Gibbs-White across the next weeks, with the player remaining as one of their priority targets.

It was explained as part of the same update that there are no issues expected on the subject of personal terms between Manchester City and the player, despite work to do with Nottingham Forest – who hope to retain the services of their star player.
