Sky Sports Celtic decision vindicated after predicting Rangers slip-up

Sky Sports will be delighted after their decision to broadcast Celtic against Kilmarnock appears to have been vindicated. After Rangers’ fortunate win over Celtic at Celtic Park last month, the broadcaster decided to pick up the game against the Rugby Park side on the 12th April, moving the game to become a half 12 start.

The decision appeared to be premature at the time given that Celtic knew that the slip up against Rangers would require three victories on the spin to wrap up the title, unless Rangers dropped points. It was widely expected that they would use the three points at Celtic Park to kick on in the final part of the season; although it appears that the broadcasters expected a slip-up. Last weekend, Rangers came from behind to beat Dundee but there was to be no repeat.

The broadcasters would have been pleased to see Rangers falling to a 2-0 home defeat against Hibernian on Saturday afternoon, which could set up a title party at Celtic Park next weekend. Brendan Rodgers’ side travel to Perth to face St Johnstone as they know that there are two wins required to bring a fourth successive title to Paradise.

Chris Sutton will be at McDiarmid Park tomorrow, grinning like a Cheshire cat with Kris Boyd likely looking surly. The pair will likely dissect the dismal display from Rangers before previewing the game tomorrow. Celtic were excellent in the win at Perth earlier this season and they will want to warm up for the Scottish Cup Semi Final by swatting away the Premiership strugglers.
