The Sky Sports column ‘Jones Knows’ has given some interesting analysis and commentary on what is currently the position at Newcastle United.

The column makes predictions on what will happen at certain Premier League matches and also debates other matters/issues at clubs as well.

However, unlike the usual ex-pro predictions, that are usually simply based on how ‘big’ a club is and whether or not they won the previous game, this one has proper analysis and insight, not lazy assumptions.

The Sky Sports ‘Jones Knows’ column looks at the matches from a betting perspective and has been concentrating on this Newcastle United game at Anfield.

Lewis Jones (who is the Sky Sports expert behind the ‘Jones Knows’ column) has highlighted some major underlying factors that could / should have a big bearing on this Liverpool v Newcastle game.

“Newcastle have two dangerous ball carriers down their left flank in Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall who do draw tackles off the opposition.

“Just for an example, Palace’s right-wing back Daniel Munoz made 11 tackles in one game earlier this season against the Toon and Anthony Elanga and Ola Aina made six between them down that flank on Sunday for Forest.

“Newcastle will look to get both Gordon and Hall into the game at every opportunity in a bid to overrun Trent Alexander-Arnold who was given the runaround by Jeremy Doku in Liverpool’s win over Manchester City.

“Alexander-Arnold is averaging 2.8 tackles per 90 this season in the Premier League and that increases 3.3 when just including games at Anfield. The 5/4 with Sky Bet for him to make four or more tackles has a live chance.

“Score prediction: Liverpool 3 Newcastle 1”

Interesting analysis as always, from the Sky Sports expert.

Do you agree or disagree with this?

As always, there are all kinds of stats.

Liverpool have only won two of their last five matches (all competitions), whilst Newcastle have won three of their last four.

Then in the last 16 matches (all competitions):

Liverpool – Played 16 Won 9 Drawn 4 Lost 3

Newcastle United – Played 16 Won 13 Drawn 0 Lost 3

Whilst if we go specifically with results in the Premier League, the last 11 PL matches have seen Liverpool pick up 25 points, whilst Newcastle United have managed 24 points from their last 11.

Fair to say goal should be expected, as the Sky Sports expert suggests.

Both Newcastle and Liverpool scoring 27 goals each in their last 11 PL matches, a total of 54 goals. Suggesting that around five goals could potentially be expected in this game. Back on 4 December 2024 of course, there were six goals, as Newcastle and Liverpool drew 3-3 at St James’ Park.
