Southampton's 2022/23 relegation was one of the worst moments in their history. Despite more than a year and a half now, it continues to haunt them, influencing their podium place in embarrassing stat.
You might admit that the current ongoing season together with the last season will be remembered for long in Southampton's history.
The reason? These have seen the Saints featured in the first and second divisions alternately within three seasons for the inaugural time in their overall history.
But hey, if you are taking it as any appreciation, you are highly mistaken. To say the least, these three years have put a permanent blot on Southampton's legacy.
Sadly, it's among these years, that the Saints have got themselves associated with one of the most embarrassing Premier League stats ever.
As per GiveMeSport, Southampton ranks third in the list of longest winless streaks in English Top Flight. Just better than Derby County and Sunderland, the Saints had gone a disappointing 22-game winless between 2022/23 and the current season.
Notably, 13 of them had come during their relegation season and 9 in their initial games this season. It was finally after a win against Everton that they could halt their tally further.
But while that win saved the Saints from even more humiliating numbers, their season woes remain the same. In fact, that was one of their two wins this Premier League campaign.
Tell me, doesn't it hit hard as a Southampton fan that the club has had the same number of wins as managers in the 2024/25 season so far? For once a respected Premier League club, it surely does.
Clearly, Southampton being the most recent addition to this tally, speaks for their performances in the last few years.
